Our first brainstorming session included some of the following ideas:

What does it mean to be a good citizen?

  • To be respectful

*Respect your teachers
*Respect your parents
*Respect yourself

  • To be responsible

*follow the rules
*help our family/ friends
*do what we are told

  • Helping others

* help people who can’t help themselves
*(Teacher- “what about people who can help themselves- should we help them to?”)YES!!!

  • Doing good things (teacher- "by doing what?")

*Do things we are asked to do
*We could clean up our playground
*Share our stuff

After our brainstorm we will be discussion further why some of these things apply and how we can interact in helping out other people (our community)- please feel free to talk with your children about things that they can add to our class list. If you or your family has an ideas of projects or assignments to incorporate in our classes learning feel free to discuss with your children or to contact me.

Your child will receive a "tracker sheet" -the point of this assignment is to have the child observe and identify some of the qualities of a good citizen that we have been discussing - We will have the students check off qualities that they feel they have applied in the classroom setting- you can continue this assignment at home and adding more boxes or ask your child to share what boxes they have checked off during the day.
